In a recent development at the Communication Authority of Kenya (CA), Director General Ezra Chiloba has found himself suspended from his duties. This announcement came via an internal memorandum issued by the board’s chair, Mary Mungai, following a board meeting that took place on Monday.
As a result of this suspension, Christopher Wambua has been designated as the Acting Director General, temporarily taking over the helm of the organization. Mungai conveyed the news to CA staff and emphasized the importance of supporting Wambua during this transitional period, stating,
“Following a meeting of the Authority’s Board held on 18th September 2023, resulting in the suspension of the Director General, I am pleased to inform all staff of the appointment of Mr. Christopher Wambua as a Director General in Acting Capacity effective today until further notice. I trust that you will accord him the necessary support.”
Chiloba’s suspension marks a significant development in his career, occurring two years after he assumed the position. He initially took over the role from Francis Wangusi upon Wangusi’s retirement in 2021. Chiloba’s appointment letter stipulated that he was to serve in this capacity for a renewable term of four years.
Prior to his role at CA, Ezra Chiloba faced a tumultuous period when he was dismissed from his position as Chief Executive Officer of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission in October 2018.
