Dorcas Rigathi Introduces Innovative Rehabilitation Approach with Youth Detention Center at Rumuruti’s Wellness and Rehabilitation Centre

In a pioneering effort to reform wayward youth, Second Lady Pastor Dorcas Rigathi has inaugurated a groundbreaking detention facility within the Wellness and Rehabilitation Centre located in Rumuruti, Laikipia County. This novel initiative, aimed at correcting minors arrested for minor offenses, marks a collaboration between Pastor Dorcas’s office, the Judiciary, and County governments.

During the facility’s construction ceremony at Kandutura Ground in Laikipia, Pastor Dorcas emphasized the unique nature of this project. “This place will host a detention center for children who, despite being in school, have been ensnared in minor offenses and incarcerated. We aim to provide these young souls with an opportunity for rehabilitation, ensuring they leave here transformed and contributing positively to society,” she declared.

The multifaceted Wellness and Rehabilitation Centre will encompass diverse facilities, including a health center, rehabilitation unit, digital hub, sports academy, vocational training center, and a prayer hall. Pastor Dorcas revealed that the detained youths would receive comprehensive training in agribusiness and entrepreneurship, empowering them to sustain themselves upon completion of their rehabilitation.

One remarkable aspect of this initiative is the provision of free therapeutic services to individuals afflicted with cerebral palsy and autism. The facility will host one of the most extensive occupational therapy programs for cerebral palsy patients, offering free treatment for those suffering from autism.

Laikipia Governor Joshua Irungu praised the initiative, highlighting its potential to equip local youth with vital vocational skills and generate employment opportunities for the community. Pastor Dorcas Rigathi, a driving force in the rehabilitation of drug-addicted youth, has previously overseen the transformation of over 200 individuals in treatment centers located in Timau (Meru County), Nairobi’s ASK Showgrounds, Limuru (Kiambu County), Donholm, and Bomet Counties.

With this progressive endeavor, Pastor Dorcas Rigathi and her partners are ushering in a new era of rehabilitation, fostering hope and renewal among the youth while promoting community welfare in Laikipia County.
