In an unexpected twist of events, Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti has orchestrated a comprehensive reshuffle of her Cabinet, with the aim of bolstering service delivery within her administration. This surprising move, effective immediately, has implications for several County Executive Committee Members (CECMs) and numerous chief officers, heralding a significant shift in the leadership landscape of Machakos County.
Among the key changes in the County Executive Committee, Nathaniel Nganga, formerly responsible for Roads, Transport, and Public Works, now finds himself at the helm of the Department of Lands, Urban Development, Housing, and Energy. Education CECM Joyce Mwikali, on the other hand, assumes a new role overseeing Devolution. Simultaneously, Lands CECM Philip Kilonzo transitions to the Education docket.
Equally noteworthy is the transfer of Ms. Consolata Mutisya, who previously oversaw Devolution, to now spearhead the Roads, Transport, and Public Works Department.
In an unforeseen twist, the Governor has repositioned the Chief Officer who had been serving in her office, Mercy Mutua, entrusting her with the leadership of County Administration and Decentralized Units in a similar capacity. This significant shift paves the way for Charles Mutinda, formerly the Chief Officer for Education, to step into the void left by Mercy Mutua.
Further downstream, Antony Mutunga, who held sway in the Lands department, is now charting a new course in the Department of Agriculture, taking charge of Cooperative Development. Meanwhile, Vincent Musili, previously affiliated with the Tourism Department, embarks on a fresh journey as the Chief Officer for Agriculture and Food Security.
Muia Andrew Muema, previously at the helm of the Department of Agriculture, now takes the reins as the Chief Officer for Environment. Benson Metho, hailing from the Department of Water where he presided over matters of the environment, assumes the role of Lands Chief Officer.
Remarkably, a handful of County Ministers have emerged unscathed from the reshuffle, retaining their positions to provide stability and continuity in the administration. These include Daniel Yumbya (Health), Joel Nzomo (Agriculture), Onesimus Kuyu (Finance), and Sharon Mutua (Trade).
Governor Wavinya Ndeti emphasized that these strategic changes are geared towards ensuring that individuals with the right expertise occupy the appropriate positions, aligning with her overarching development agenda encapsulated in her Chakula Mezani Pesa Mfukoni Philosophy.
Speaking at a surprise press conference held at Matuu County Lodge in Yatta Sub County, the Governor articulated her vision, stating, “I have made the decision to restructure the leadership within my government to enhance efficiency in delivering services to the residents of Machakos.”
This unexpected cabinet overhaul promises to usher in a new era of governance in Machakos County, setting the stage for a fresh and dynamic approach to addressing the needs of its residents.
