Online booking of SGR can be done by several devices including a phone, laptop, desktop, ipad or whichever device that you have as long as you have access to the internet.
That said, lets get started and see the following steps on how to book SGR via online:
Step 1: Access SGR Website
Go to the SGR online website metickets.krc.co.ke to book online.
Thus is what you will see,
Step 2: Choose Train
Under Train Type, choose your desired train. Options available is the
- Inter-county
- Express
The Nairobi-to-Coast Express train does not stop at any of the stations along the way.
The train has two classes: first and economy, and it leaves from Nairobi Terminus or Syokimau Main Station.
It is also possible to go from Mombasa Terminus or Miritini Main Station.
Inter-county means it will stop in several stations along the way.
Step 3: Choose Destination
Under FROM enter the place you will board the train. Then TO enter your destination
In this section, the SGR stations to book options available include
- Nairobi Terminus
- Mombasa Terminus
- Voi
- Mtito Andei
- Mariakani
- Miaseny
- Kimali
- Emali
- Athi River
For example, if you are looking for how to book SGR train from Mombasa to Nairobi, in the section FROM select Mombasa, then in the section TO select Nairobi, that’s it.
Step 4: Choose Departure Date
You have to indicate the day you will be traveling by simply clicking the calendar icon and selecting the appropriate date.
Step 4: Click Book A Train
Congratulations. You are almost done. You have just booked your train but its time to pay fare based on age
Step 5: Fill Number of People To Travel
A new window will open up indicating prices for adults, and children.
Also, you will see where to indicate the number of persons whether a child or an adult.
Once done, the total fare will calculate.
Click Book A Train in order to go to payment section
Step 5: Pay For Tickets
In this window, you will indicate the full names of people who will be travelling. Including gender and nationality.
Also, for adults you will fill the National Identification (ID) number.
Under Payment details, enter your mobile number the one you will use to make payment which is mandatory. In email, its optional to fill,
On the side, you will see the coach you will board, date, time, number of adults and children and total amount to pay.
Pay with your mpesa the total amount.

Then click pay now, or pay later. Based on how ready you want to make payment.
Assume you want to pay now, you will need to pay with mpesa. Follow this steps
Buying SGR Tickets
- Go to YOUR MPESA Menu on the phone.
- Choose Lipa Na Mpesa
- Select Paybill
- Input SGR Paybill Number 809888.
- Input the Account No. (should be your ticker number as shown in the screen)
- Enter the applicable amount and click confirm.
- Wait for the Confirmation SMS from safaricom Mpesa.
