In a fiery address delivered in Bomachoge Borabu, Kisii Governor Simba Arati took Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to task for his perceived resistance to the redeployment of security personnel to governors affiliated with the Azimio La Umoja political coalition. Arati’s impassioned speech echoed through the region, condemning what he called Gachagua’s outdated approach to politics.
Arati vehemently argued that withholding security from governors due to their political affiliations was unjustifiable. He stressed that all elected officials, regardless of their party allegiance, were committed to serving the Kenyan people.
The governor’s remarks were rooted in recent events that saw the withdrawal of security from ODM-affiliated governors who had openly supported anti-government protests. Kisii town bore witness to these protests, which tragically resulted in loss of life and property damage, with at least three fatalities during the Saba Saba demonstrations alone.
On this particular Wednesday, Arati emphatically asserted that there was nothing inherently wrong with being part of the opposition. He cited the constitution’s provisions, which guarantee every citizen the right to belong to a political party and to express their opinions freely, without jeopardizing their security.
The governor’s words came as he presided over the groundbreaking ceremony for an industrial park located in Tongeri, Bomachoge Borabu, Kisii. During his address, Arati made it abundantly clear that he had no intentions of altering his political stance to curry favor with the government.
He boldly declared, “We refuse to bow down to anyone in power to regain our security detail. Personally, I am resolute in my belief that the protection I require should come from the people.”
Arati further called on Deputy President Gachagua to conduct himself with the dignity befitting his position. He emphasized the importance of maintaining decorum and respecting the office he holds.
The County Aggregation and Industrial Park, a promising collaborative venture between the National and County governments, was the central focus of the event. The national government has pledged an initial sum of Sh500 million to kickstart the project, which is poised to generate employment opportunities for hundreds of youth upon completion.
Arati encouraged the local residents to seize the opportunities presented by the industrial park, particularly through agriculture. Similar industrial parks are also scheduled for development in Migori and Nyamira.
Trade Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria graced the groundbreaking ceremony, underlining the significance of this ambitious project for the region’s economic growth. The event served as a platform for Arati to not only express his political convictions but also to champion the socioeconomic development of the Kisii County.
