From getting lost to staying on traffic jam for hours in Nairobi, the transport system in Nairobi is a nightmare.
It’s not unusual to hear amusing anecdotes about individuals stuck in traffic for hours, but the city’s public transportation system is even more perplexing.
Despite the government’s efforts to simplify the market, the public transportation sector is dominated by matatus, which frequently show little respect for order.
One of the first measures taken by authorities was to implement a route numbering system, in which each route is assigned a number that allows commuters to quickly locate their destination.
For every traveller in Nairobi, the unwritten rule is to always confirm the destination before entering any public transportation vehicle (PSV).
Because some PSVs have tightly tinted windows with practically no visibility outside, you won’t know where you are on the journey.
Always raise your voice to the conductor of the vehicle.
