In a recent announcement, the Ministry of Education has unveiled the eagerly anticipated academic schedule for the year 2024. According to the released calendar, term one for all pre-primary, primary, secondary schools, and teacher training colleges is set to commence on January 8, 2024. The term will span a period of 13 weeks, concluding on April 5, 2024.
During term one, schools will observe a brief hiatus for a half-term break from February 29 to March 3, spanning three days. Following this, students and educators will enjoy a well-deserved April holiday starting from April 8 to April 26, encompassing three weeks of rest and relaxation.
Term two is slated to begin on April 29, 2024, and will run until August 2, 2024, spanning a duration of 14 weeks. A mid-term break has been scheduled from June 20 to June 23, offering a short reprieve to recharge before resuming academic activities. Subsequently, schools will close for the August holiday, commencing from August 5 and lasting until August 23, providing students with three weeks of vacation.
Term three will witness the commencement of the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) and the Kenya Intermediate Level Education Assessment from October 28 to October 31, spanning four days. The KCSE examination period is set from November 4 to November 22, lasting three weeks.
As the year draws to a close, schools will embark on the December Holiday from October 2024 to January 3, 2025, encompassing ten weeks of relaxation and festive celebrations.
Teacher training colleges, offering programs such as the Diploma in Teachers Education (Secondary), Diploma in Primary Teacher Education, and Diploma in Early Childhood Teacher Education, will also follow a structured academic timeline. In term one, colleges will open on January 8 and conclude on April 5, covering a period of 13 weeks. A three-week break will follow, starting from April 8 to April 26.
Term two will commence on April 29 and conclude on August 2, spanning 14 weeks of rigorous training and education. The August holiday will begin on August 5 and extend until August 30, offering a month-long break for educators to rejuvenate.
Term three for teacher training colleges is set to run from August 26 to November 8, spanning 11 weeks of intensive coursework. The year will conclude with the December holiday, starting from November 11, 2024, to January 3, 2025, providing eight weeks of downtime for instructors to unwind and prepare for the upcoming academic year.
