Former Kajiado North MP Philip Odupoy Dies

In a somber announcement made by Governor Joseph Lenku on Sunday, the community of Kajiado North mourns the loss of a revered leader. Former Kajiado North MP, Philip Lempish Odupoy, passed away, leaving behind a legacy of dedicated service and remarkable leadership.

Governor Lenku expressed his deep sorrow, sharing that the news of Odupoy’s demise reached him late on Saturday. “Hon. Odupoy, who served as Kajiado North MP from 1983 to 1988, was not just a politician but a natural leader deeply connected to his people,” said Lenku in a heartfelt statement.

Odupoy’s contributions extended beyond his role as a Member of Parliament; he also served as an Assistant Minister of Planning and National Development during former President Daniel Arap Moi’s administration. Lenku praised Odupoy as a public servant, a thriving farmer, and a respected figure of immense influence.

“In this time of profound sorrow for his family and friends, our solidarity is unwavering. We share in this grief, for his impact was felt by all,” added Lenku, emphasizing the widespread respect Odupoy commanded.

The history of Kajiado North Constituency, etched with significant political milestones, reflects the vibrant democracy of the region. Established before the 1966 general election, the constituency saw leaders like G K Ole Kipury of KANU elected as MP. In 1983, Odupoy assumed office, serving until 1988, a period marked by his dedication to the community’s welfare.

Following Odupoy’s tenure, the late George Saitoti assumed the role of MP until 2012, when tragedy struck in a helicopter accident in Ngong. Subsequently, Moses Sakuda was elected, paving the way for Joseph Manje, who led the constituency until the last general election.

In a political transition, Onesmus Ngogoyo took charge after Manje’s departure, elected on a UDA party ticket. The constituency’s political landscape evolved, but the memory of Odupoy’s service remains a beacon, guiding the community forward.

As Kajiado North mourns the loss of a remarkable leader, Odupoy’s legacy lives on, inspiring future generations to uphold the values of service, dedication, and unwavering commitment to the people.
