In the latest FIFA rankings released by the global governing body, Kenya’s national men’s football team, the Harambee Stars, has experienced a decline, dropping five places to 109th. This shift in position follows the team’s recent international friendly matches in which they achieved a 2-1 victory against Qatar in Al-Wakrah but suffered a 1-0 defeat to South Sudan in Nairobi.
The defeat against South Sudan had a significant impact on Kenya’s ranking, causing a drop of 6.93 points in their cumulative score, which now stands at 1184.14. Despite their victory, South Sudan remained at position 167 in the FIFA rankings. This impressive gain in points for South Sudan marked them as the team with the highest point increase within the Confederation of African Football (CAF) region.
The top-ranking nations in Africa remained consistent, with Morocco holding the 13th position, Senegal at 20th, Tunisia at 29th, Algeria at 34th, and Egypt at 35th. Mali and Côte d’Ivoire both made strides in the rankings, each moving up two spots to secure positions among the top 50 teams in the world.
On the global stage, Argentina tightened their grip on the number one spot after securing a 1-0 triumph over Ecuador and a convincing 3-0 away victory against Bolivia in the CONMEBOL FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifiers. This impressive performance solidified their status as the top-ranked team in the world.
France, in second place, experienced a setback in their ranking after suffering a 2-1 defeat in a friendly match against Germany.
Meanwhile, Brazil, England, and Belgium maintained their positions in the top five of the FIFA rankings, with no changes from the July 2023 edition of the global ranking
