Renowned Business Tycoon Vimal Shah Appointed Chancellor of Maasai Mara University by President Ruto

In a significant development that underscores President William Ruto’s commitment to education and leadership, Vimal Shah, a prominent billionaire entrepreneur, has been appointed as the new chancellor of Maasai Mara University. As revealed in a Gazette Notice released on September 8, President Ruto’s decision designates Shah for a five-year term.

The official statement from President Ruto’s office reads, “I, William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, appoint Vimal Shah to be the Chancellor of Maasai Mara University, for a period of five (5) years, with effect from the 7th September 2023.”

Vimal Shah’s ascendancy to this distinguished role is an acknowledgment of his remarkable entrepreneurial journey and commitment to the development of Kenya. Born in Nyeri, Kenya, in 1960, Shah pursued higher education at the United States International University, Nairobi Campus, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration and Finance.

Shah’s professional voyage commenced in 1985 when he joined his father’s venture, Bidco Industries, a modest oil processing company. His unwavering dedication and vision propelled him through the organization’s ranks, culminating in his appointment as the CEO of Bidco Africa in 2002.

Under his visionary stewardship, Bidco Africa has flourished into a dominant force, emerging as the preeminent manufacturer, marketer, and distributor of fast-moving consumer goods in East and Central Africa.

Vimal Shah’s contributions to the Kenyan economy have garnered him numerous accolades and distinctions. In 2012, he received the prestigious Order of the Grand Warrior (OGW) from the Kenyan President, recognizing his pivotal role in advancing the nation’s economic growth.

His entrepreneurial prowess reached new heights in 2015 when he was honored as the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year for East Africa. His marriage to Manda Shah marks Vimal Shah’s personal life, and they are blessed with a son, Soham Shah. Additionally, he is the sibling of Tarun Shah.
