Senator Thang’wa Tells UDA SG Malala to Stay Clear of Kiambu County Affairs

Senator Karungo wa Thang’wa of Kiambu County has raised concerns about the involvement of United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Secretary General Cleophas Malala in the internal matters of the county. Expressing his displeasure in a video shared on social media, Thang’wa accused Malala of collaborating with Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi to pressure MCAs who oppose the governor’s leadership style.

In the recorded clip, Thang’wa asserted that Governor Wamatangi had directed Malala to communicate with the MCAs, compelling them to align themselves with the governor’s agenda or face potential repercussions from the UDA party.

“The responsibility of safeguarding the interests of the county falls upon the senator. The role of the party’s secretary general is to recruit UDA members, and there is a substantial UDA presence in Kiambu County. However, meddling in the governance of Kiambu County is not within his purview,” Thang’wa emphasized.

The senator drew parallels between Malala’s actions and the previous conduct of former Jubilee party Secretary General Raphael Tuju, who was allegedly instructed by then Governor James Nyoro to pressure MCAs to conform.

“Cease intimidating MCAs. Allow them to carry out their duties independently. What we need here is open communication and consultations,” he urged.

Thang’wa suggested that Malala’s partiality towards Wamatangi may be due to their friendship as senators.

This dispute unfolds against deteriorating relations between Governor Wamatangi and the Kiambu MCAs, with Senator Karungo wa Thang’wa aligning himself with the MCAs. The senator recently cautioned the governor to rectify the situation or potentially face consequences.

The ongoing discord in Kiambu County has prompted Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to issue a stern warning, calling on the governor to collaborate harmoniously with the MCAs. Similar conflicts between governors and MCAs are also brewing in Meru and Kericho counties, where the deputy governor is at odds with the MCAs.
