Court Restrains Bloggers Over Gloria Orwoba’s Controversy

A recent development in the ongoing case involving Nominated Senator Gloria Orwoba and a National Assembly clerk has taken an unexpected turn. A Magistrate court in Nairobi has stepped in to issue a restraining order against three social media accounts, belonging to prominent bloggers and influencers. These accounts stand accused of disseminating defamatory content directed at the said clerk.

The controversy began when the clerk filed a petition alleging that Senator Orwoba had conspired with these social media administrators to tarnish his reputation.

In response, the court has not only restrained these bloggers from reposting any statements made by the suspended Senator but has also extended the gag order to include other social media users, barring them from spreading defamatory content concerning the clerk.

The court’s intervention came after a video surfaced on YouTube, portraying the clerk in a negative light, suggesting he had solicited sexual favors from Senator Orwoba. As a result, sharing or reposting this video on any social media platform is now legally prohibited.

Senator Orwoba, who was suspended from the Senate and Parliament precincts for six months on September 20, finds herself in a difficult situation. The suspension was imposed following a Senate Powers and Privileges Committee report, which concluded that she had failed to substantiate her allegations against the clerk and neglected to appear in the chambers to defend herself.

To be readmitted to the House after her suspension concludes, Senator Orwoba will be required to issue an apology to her fellow colleagues.

Throughout this ordeal, Senator Orwoba has stood by her claims of sexual harassment within the Parliament precincts, maintaining her position despite the mounting challenges.
