Eugene Wamalwa, a prominent figure in the Azimio camp, abruptly exited the Bipartisan Talks on Thursday, creating a whirlwind of controversy during the Cherera Four’s submissions. These ousted former Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) commissioners, known as the Cherera Four, made their case amidst a heated altercation with Kenya Kwanza politicians.
Before his dramatic departure, Wamalwa vehemently asserted that the IEBC had failed to conduct a credible election. Throughout the session, the former Defense Cabinet Secretary criticized Wafula Chebukati, the former IEBC Chairperson, for his failure to appear before the National Dialogue Committee as originally planned.
“We had hoped that Chebukati would be present, and his refusal to participate denies the country the opportunity to hear both sides of the story. The arrogance in his letter will not go unaddressed,”
In response, Chebukati and two commissioners, Prof. Abdi Guliye and Boya Molu, issued a statement declining to attend the session, considering the 2022 general election a closed matter.
uring their submissions, the Cherera Four remained resolute in their claim that the presidential election results announced by Chebukati in 2022 were inaccurate and questionable.
The Cherera Four, consisting of Juliana Cherera, Irene Masit, Justus Nyang’aya, and Francis Wanderi, all provided dissenting opinions and contested the results proclaimed by Chebukati.
Nevertheless, the Kenya Kwanza faction, led by National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah, raised challenging questions, casting doubt on the Cherera Four’s accounts.
