In a significant development, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), headed by CEO Marjan Hussein Marjan, has committed to opening the servers employed in the 2022 general election. This decision was made during a session before the National Dialogue Committee (NDCO).
During the proceedings, IEBC’s ICT director, Michael Ouma, assured the committee that the servers were indeed available for a comprehensive forensic audit, confirming their readiness for examination. He stated, “The servers are available for forensic audit, anytime. They were used to process an exact duplicate of the physical forms in our possession.”
This commitment from the IEBC Secretariat comes in response to queries from the National Dialogue Committee regarding the circumstances necessitating the server’s access. The commission emphasized its confidence in the accuracy of the data stored on these servers, underscoring that the figures contained therein match precisely with those recorded on the physical forms.
These developments occur against a backdrop of ongoing disputes between the political factions of Kenya Kwanza and Azimio la Umoja concerning the accessibility of the servers utilized during the 2022 general elections. Azimio la Umoja, led by Raila Odinga, has repeatedly called for the servers to be opened, alleging electoral misconduct by the IEBC.
